“The Hookenspoon”
Located in the center of Historic North Hero Village

“The Hookenspoon” (1890), home of the North Hero Historical Society museum, serves as a center for local research and discovery. Once a two-story fishing camp overlooking City Bay, it now houses artifacts and documents from across the Champlain Islands, with an emphasis on North Hero. Exhibits include an 1890s cigar case, goods from a country store, and a recreated vintage kitchen and laundry area displaying household items from the 1800s to the 1950s, along with themed binders of reproduced documents and photographs. The curators increasingly support visitors’ research inquiries. Behind the museum, the Dorwaldt Barn displays farm and ice-harvesting tools, sleighs, antique fishing gear, and other artifacts from the Lake Champlain area.
